The business program of Global Fishery Forum and Seafood Expo Russia has traditionally been developed in line with the strategic objectives of the fishery industry and the current priorities required to achieve them. The central theme of the plenary session will be "The Transition to the Bioeconomy in the Fishery Industry as the Key to Technological Development and Economic Transformation." The discussion will focus on an economic model based on the application of biotechnology and scientific knowledge of living systems to improve resource efficiency and ensure the sustainable development of the industry.
Focus on a New Geography of Cooperation
Building on the theme of economic transformation, the business program will address practical questions: where the main added value in fish products is created today, which export models remain resilient amid the restructuring of global trade, how global demand is evolving, and which technological solutions can ensure the long-term competitiveness of Russian enterprises in international markets while meeting domestic demand.
A new section of the program will be dedicated to cooperation with BRICS+ countries and the Global South. Participants will discuss the development of a multipolar global trading system, emerging export and logistics routes, and international cooperation in processing, aquaculture, shipbuilding, and other fisheries-related technologies. Particular attention will be paid to establishing sustainable mechanisms for international partnership in the context of ongoing transformations in the global economy.
Aquaculture: a Growth Sector
A key event on the agenda will be the International Trout Forum, bringing together leading aquaculture producers, heads of constituent entities of the Russian Federation, and representatives of friendly countries involved in salmon and trout farming. The forum will create new opportunities for the industry by providing a platform for dialogue between business and government, strengthening cooperation with international partners, accelerating the adoption of best practices in fish breeding and farming, feed production, and genetics.
These issues are becoming increasingly important as the industry transitions to more intensive production models. Their practical application across all aquatic biological resources will be further explored within the specialized exhibition Aqua Farm Global.
Production Technologies: Drivers of Consumption Growth and Export Expansion
Issues related to the technological modernization of the fisheries sector and the development of production infrastructure will once again be addressed within the framework of the specialized exhibition Ship Tech Global, which brings together topics related to the construction, outfitting, and repair of large-, medium-, and small-tonnage vessels, as well as equipment for the fishery industry and logistics infrastructure.
The business agenda will also include discussions on the domestic production of machinery, ingredients, packaging, and other solutions for deep processing of fish products. These areas are increasingly becoming key factors in the industry's resilience, as they directly influence production costs, value creation, and the ability of enterprises to maintain stable operations and supply chains in a changing market environment.
They are also directly linked to achieving target levels of fish consumption—a topic that remains one of the central themes of the event each year. Experts will discuss how fish can be transformed from an occasional purchase into a staple everyday food product. A separate session will examine opportunities to increase the share of fish products in the children's nutrition segment. Issues related to ensuring reliable supply chains for such products will be at the center of a roundtable discussion on the continuous cold chain.
Another cross-cutting technological theme will be digitalization and the implementation of artificial intelligence tools throughout the industry.
Human Capital and the Professional Community
Special attention within the business program will be devoted to workforce development. The youth forum Fishery Skillswill bring together students, young professionals, educational institutions, and business representatives to discuss new competencies, career pathways, and workforce training for the fishery industry of the future.
The forum will also traditionally host award ceremonies recognizing professionals of the fisheries sector, industry enterprises, educational and scientific organizations, and media representatives who have contributed to the development of the fishery industry and the promotion of fish consumption.
The breadth of topics covered will enable the forum and exhibition to present a comprehensive vision of the future development model for the fisheries sector—from international trade and cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture to technology, production infrastructure, and the training of a new generation of specialists.
IX Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo Russia will take place on 16–18 September 2026 at the Expoforum Convention and Exhibition Centre in St. Petersburg, Russia.
